The diverse parish community of this landmark church located in Harvard Square includes the Boston Archdiocesan Choir School, the Harvard-Radcliffe Catholic Student Center, and the Harvard Square community. The Master Plan Committee hired Donham & Sweeney to design a ten-year campaign to restore the exterior of the 1923 basilical church, to make both levels accessible to the physically handicapped, and to redesign the interiors of both the upper and lower churches to respond to the liturgical changes urged by the Second Vatican Council.
